Socialization Classes

Structured, calm exposure to other dogs and people. Socialization is not a free-for-all at the dog park; it is controlled practice at staying relaxed around things that used to be exciting.

Socialization is one of the most misunderstood words in dog training. It does not mean letting your dog greet everyone and everything. For many dogs, that approach builds exactly the frustration and over-arousal owners come to us to fix.

What it does mean is teaching your dog to be near other dogs and people while staying relaxed and able to listen. Neutrality is the goal. A dog who can ignore another dog has far more freedom than one who has to say hello every time.

Group sessions give us something private lessons cannot: real dogs at a real distance, with handlers who are all working on the same thing. We manage the distance carefully so every dog stays under threshold and the practice stays positive.

Group classes pair well with private lessons. Many owners use classes for proofing around distractions and private sessions for the specific issues that need one-on-one attention.
